Perth Glory will be in Western Australia for Christmas as they get set to leave hotel quarantine in Brisbane tomorrow.
A positive COVID-19 test in the camp has seen the 35-member group in isolation for almost a week but following talks Queensland Health, WA Health and WA Police, they will complete the remaining seven days on home soil.
The health and well-being of our players and staff has been the top priority throughout and we are extremely pleased that they will now be able to complete their quarantine at home in Perth.
I would also like to thank the players and staff for the resilience they have shown under extremely difficult circumstances and our Members and fans for the fantastic support they have provided throughout this period.
– Perth Glory CEO Tony Pignata
However, the players will not be permitted to train during that time and it is unclear when they will return to competitive action having last played against Melbourne City on December 8.
Glory’s clash with Adelaide United, originally scheduled for tomorrow night, has already been canned and today it was confirmed that the January 2 game against Macarthur FC and the Sydney FC fixture on January 5 have also been postponed.
The following @IsuzuUTE A-League fixtures have been postponed:
Round 6⃣ – @brisbaneroar vs. @MelbourneCity
Round 7⃣ – @SydneyFC vs. @PerthGloryFC
Round 8⃣ – @mfcbulls vs. @PerthGloryFC #WeAreALeagues— Isuzu UTE A-League (@aleaguemen) December 22, 2021
Next on the list is a game against Western Sydney Wanderers at Commbank Stadium on January 8 but it would be a surprise if that was to go ahead.
The Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s competition is facing a fixture pile up with a COVID-19 outbreak at Melbourne City impacting six individuals causing the postponement of their game against Brisbane Roar.
Meanwhile, the Newcastle Jets have taken matters into their own hands with the Boxing Day game against the Wanderers now taking place behind closed doors.
Three FFA Cup games scheduled for tonight have also fallen by the wayside and it looks more and more likely that the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) will need to explore the possibility of extending the season.
