Glory to reap benefits from new high-performance training facility

Perth Glory have already begun preparations for next season with their facility at Fremantle Oval to undergo a complete revamp in the coming months.

The relocation of their administration department to Fremantle took place earlier this year, and the plan to bring all aspects of the club together under one roof is now set to come to fruition.

“The elite-level facilities at Fremantle Oval will be hugely beneficial for our A-League and W-League squads, and this move will therefore play a major role in reinforcing our drive to bring sustained success to the club,” said Glory CEO Tony Pignata when the deal was inked last September.

Glory currently train at Scotch College in Swanbourne where they have access to a changing room and a pitch. There is no gym or recovery environment on site for the players who must make do with the facilities at the West Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) in Mount Claremont. Video analysis is conducted via a projector and the changing room wall.

That is all set to change though; the redevelopment of Fremantle Oval, where Glory are the sole full time sporting tenant, will create an elite environment to incorporate the senior men’s, senior women’s, and academy teams. The players will benefit from –

  • A fully equipped gym
  • Recovery facilities
  • New male and female changing rooms, including lockers and massage table
  • Canteen and recreation/barbecue area
  • Team meeting and video analysis room
  • Medical department
  • Kit/laundry/boot room

Also included in the upgrade will be coaches’ offices on the first floor of the building that will overlook the main training pitch. As well as this, Glory will have exclusive access to a second training pitch located on the same site as the Fremantle Roosters Rugby Club in Beaconsfield.

With so many youngsters getting opportunities in the men’s first team this season, the club wants to maximise their potential and the creation of a high-performance environment is seen as critical to player development. Injury prevention is also high on the list of priorities given the current lengthy list of absentees.

Glory are on the hunt for a Technical Director to oversee the running of the new setup, and a successful candidate should be in place prior to the commencement of preseason training at Fremantle Oval in July.
